Wayne-Creek Cup

Beaver Creek Country Club lost 22-20 at Waynesboro CC on Friday, August 28, 2009.  However, Beaver Creek had a 7 point lead going into this match, so Beaver Creek wins the 2009 title.

Waynesboro won in 2007 and 2008, so Waynesboro still leads the series 2 to 1.

Each year, there is a Ryder-Cup style match at each Club.  The total points added together determine the year’s winner.  In the case of a tie, the team currently with the Cup would retain the cup.

WACO Chi-Chi Shootout 5:30pm

August 6, 2009

In one of the most exciting shootouts ever, Dirk Schultz defeated Denny Stoner in a chip-off on the 18th Hole.  Both players parred the 18th hole.  Dirk chipped first to 8′ 2″.  Denny’s chip was 8′ 6″.

20 Golfers began the sudden-death format.  There were 5 groups of four golfers each.  Each group played the holes in a match play format with the loser of the hole being eliminated.  If there was no clear-cut loser on the hole, then a “chip-off” is required.  The golfer with the worst chip is eliminated.  Play continues until there is only one golfer remaining from the 5 groups.

The five group winnners proceeded to the 15th hole to determine the champion.  Here were those results:

Hole 15:  Denny Stoner (birdie)
                   Dirk Schultz (par)
